Rain

I have a recurring fixation with rain. It is pouring down outside, and it just makes everything right. The scent and smell... the feeling of coldness drenching you through your clothes. Running is good, but running in the rain is better than good - it's fantastic. There is something otherly about the way that rain can say, with just a few drops, "Sometimes life does not go the way that you expect, but for these few moments that is okay."

Patty Griffin makes me think of rain, so does Jack Johnson - listening to "Banana Pancakes" with the sunroof open is glorious (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ee4jGYgFG2A). Rain is in the movies, books, and song titles. It seems that almost every musician is required to write a song about rain at one point or another. Each lyrics is nearly as corny as the last, yet... somehow significant all the same.

I have yet to write my 'rain song' but maybe one day I will be able to unveil my ode to rain.

  1. I love the rain as well, but I do hate to run. I have never run in the rain -- maybe that's my problem. I have walked 2 miles to school in pouring down rain... I have waited two hours at night on the curb in the rain waiting for my ride... I have gotten lost driving through a torrent... yet I have never run in the rain. I might try it!

I love putting my ear on the window pane in a rainpour, close my eyes, and listen for a song... not MY song, as I am not a songwriter, but someone else's song that I'd heard before.

Sometimes as I watch the rain, I envision the scene in Mary Poppins where the rain washes away the chalk drawings on the sidewalk, and I envision my mistakes as sidewalk chalk drawings being washed away by the rain.

    Hey, there's a song...

    Enjoy the rain, my friend.

  2. That is really awesome JoAnn! That is thing I find so peculiar about rain... I think that most people have a certain connection to it. What a strange element!

Well, it seems that while you should try running in the rain, I should put my to a window the next time it rains. I have never done that.

I love how everyone can enjoy a certain experience differently!
